Supreme Court in Chennai now
Congratulations to Prime Minister Modi. The Central Government has decided to expand the branches of the Supreme Court to three locations, Chennai, Mumbai and Calcutta, for the first time since India’s independence, with the Supreme Court operating only in the capital Delhi. Those who are dissatisfied with the High Court judgments in all the states of India will last seek the Supreme Court. Only those who could afford it went to Delhi and appealed. Many poor people were affected by not being able to go to Delhi and prosecute without knowing the procedure. The Madurai branch of the High Court has become a boon for those who are unable to come to Chennai and file a case as the Madurai branch of the High Court has already come to Tamil Nadu. Similarly, the Central Government has decided to expand the branches of the Supreme Court to three locations: Chennai, Mumbai and Calcutta. That too will be a boon for the people living in the southern states as the Supreme Court is coming to Chennai. The coming of the Supreme Court branch in Chennai is considered to be beneficial not only to the people of Tamil Nadu but also to the people living in other southern states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala.🙏

Rajya Sabha Member P Wilson Moves
Rajya Sabha Member and senior lawyer P Wilson has introduced a Private Member Bill termed as the Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2020 that seeks to establish 4 Permanent Regional Benches of the Supreme Court in a bid to decentralise the Supreme Court.
In a similar development, recently a delegation of top officials from the Bar Councils of five southern States i.e. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala met with Chief Justice of India NV Ramana and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday to give a representation for the creation of a Supreme Court Bench in South India.
Rajya Sabha Member P Wilson has always been a staunch advocate for setting up regional Supreme Court Benches in the country. On December 16 2020, he had addressed a letter to the then Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad seeking the establishment of such permanent regional Benches of the Supreme Court. “Access to Justice is not the preserve of the rich, but the right of every person in this great nation”, Wilson had mentioned in his letter.
